I’ve worked in IT since 1980. I started with a B.Ed with a double major in Maths and Physics. I then completed a Graduate Diploma of Computer Science.
I’ve worked for a manufacturing company since that time. My job position is Senior Business Analyst. With the new products and improvements to existing software that come to IT, you have to keep up and take on new technology. This has made for an interesting job that never gets boring as there are always new challenges and new and easier ways to do things.
My first programming was language was a proprietary language called Databus. I was fascinated to write code and see designs come to life on screens and print output, and jobs made simpler with more being accomplished or more insightful reports / analyses of data being made available.
The largest system I’ve written was an order entry system which needed customers at National, State and local levels, material data, stock level, pricing for the stock with different conditions for different customers, order input, invoice output and so on, and then all the reports associated with sales and inventory management. That took close to a year of full-time effort with lots more enhancements as more requirements were unearthed as possibilities of new functionality became apparent.
